A supplemental method for learning thoroughbass improvisation that focuses exclusively on practice in the most common harmonic patterns of 18th century music. Contains about 120 abstractly presented exercises. 

In 1752 the famous German flutist Johann Joachim Quantz in his legendary performance practice treatise On Playing the Flute articulated his opinions on tempo in a remarkably specific and systematic fashion. By relating everything to the average human pulse rate, Quantz was able to overcome many of the ambiguities inherent in a discussion about tempo in an era when the metronome was still only a figment of science fiction. This article summarizes Quantz's opinions on tempo and then neatly encapsulates them all with several line graphs. To fill in some gaps, conjectural tempi are also proposed.

Mensural and proportional signatures in renaissance music function quite differently compared to our own modern time signatures. This booklet based on Busse Berger's Mensuration and Proportion: Origins and Evolution serves as concise reference to the most common signatures used during the 15th and 16th centuries. Contained within are numerous diagrams that visually explain the meaning of each signature and the mechanics of diminution and proportion.

This booklet serves as a reference guide to many of the time signatures used roughly during the period of 1650-1750.
